Local Government to Enhance Social Policies in 2026 Budget with 18.5% Increase for Vulnerable Services

The local government will continue to strengthen social policies in the municipal budgets of 2026, which include an 18.5% increase in the financial allocation for the most vulnerable, rising from 10 million euros in the previous year to 12 million euros in the upcoming year. The councilor in charge, Isabel Cintado, stated after the municipal executive meeting that this commitment ‘reflects the government team’s willingness to ensure assistance to families, especially the most in need.’ She highlighted that among the programs receiving significant reinforcement is the home care service, with funding increasing from 7.1 to 9 million euros, representing a 25.7% rise. ‘This is an essential initiative that allows older and dependent individuals to continue living in their homes with a quality of life, through professional and continuous care,’ explained the councilor, noting that the planned tender for the next five years will amount to over 52 million euros.
