Local Athlete Javier Mérida Takes on 54-Kilometer Swim Challenge in Ría de Vigo
The mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, has expressed the institutional support of the City Council for local athlete Javier Mérida as he faces a new challenge this July to swim the 54 kilometers of the Ría de Vigo in the ‘El Gran Rande’ crossing, a demanding round-trip route that has only been completed by one person worldwide. The event is scheduled between July 20 and 24, depending on sea conditions, tides, and weather. The mayor has praised the trajectory of the Marbella swimmer and emphasized that ‘if there is an outstanding ambassador for Marbella, it is Javier Mérida.’ She also highlighted that he has shown throughout his career ‘an extraordinary ability to overcome challenges that would be unthinkable for the vast majority.’
