Marbella Pays Tribute to Sonia Vázquez by Naming Athletics Track after Her
The City Council has paid tribute to Sonia Vázquez by giving her name to the athletics track located in Arroyo Primero in recognition of her career and as a role model for women in sports in the city. The mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, highlighted during the official ceremony held yesterday that the triathlete and teacher “represents the values of effort, education, and coexistence” and also emphasized that the initiative came from the Municipal Council of Childhood and Adolescence. “Our young people wanted to distinguish someone they see every day teaching, training, and transmitting values, as is the case with Sonia,” she pointed out. In this regard, the mayor stated that this tribute “is much more than a symbolic gesture, as naming a public space means deciding what story we want to tell and what role models we want to leave for future generations.” “The new name of the facility reflects the effort, education, health, coexistence, and personal growth that we want to promote as a city,” she added.
