Marbella’s Tourism Sector Expresses Concern Over Delay in High-Speed Train Works

The Marbella City Council will convey the dissatisfaction of the tourism sector to the central government regarding the delay in the works for the Malaga-Madrid high-speed train (AVE). The government spokesperson, Félix Romero, has criticized the lack of transparency from the Ministry of Development and urges them to immediately increase resources to shorten the expected timelines and restore normalcy in railway connections as soon as possible. He noted that only vague announcements have been made, without explaining to citizens the ongoing work, stating that the province will be without high-speed rail until after Easter with a partial reopening on a single track, while the complete repair (double track) will not take place until June. Romero, who discussed this issue in the Local Government Board, emphasized the strategic importance of Easter as a prelude to the peak tourist season. “This period is a key indicator of summer demand behavior and a crucial time for economic activity, especially for the hospitality and services sector,” he added.
