Marbella Supports Initiative for Broader and More Uniform Neonatal Screening in Spain

The City Council has shown its support today for the national campaign, through the collection of signatures, promoted by the ‘+ Visibles’ association for the expansion and standardization of neonatal screening throughout the country. This initiative aims to ensure that all newborns have the same opportunities for early diagnosis regardless of their place of birth. The Health Councillor, Alejandro González, emphasized the importance of this procedure, commonly known as the ‘heel prick test’, which allows for the early detection of multiple treatable congenital diseases. ‘We are talking about a simple sample that can prevent serious health complications for a baby, even save their life, or prevent permanent disabilities,’ the councilor said, noting that the number of diseases detected currently varies by autonomous community.
