Marbella City Council Removes 374 Tons of Invasive Algae in a Single Day from Nueva Andalucía Beach

The Marbella City Council has removed a total of 374 tons of invasive algae in just one day from Nueva Andalucía Beach, as part of a special operation activated to address these increasingly recurrent episodes affecting the coastal area of the municipality. The intensive work throughout the day aimed to ensure the cleanliness of the sand strip and reduce the impact of the algae influx. Despite the significant amount removed, the water continued to accumulate a high biomass concentration, making direct action difficult as machinery cannot access the sea to remove algae from that area. The focus of the intervention is on cleaning and collecting algae that washes ashore, while the presence of material in the water depends on current evolution and sea conditions.
