Emergency Maintenance Actions on La Represa Park Lake Due to Incivility Issues

The Marbella City Council, through the Parks and Gardens municipal department, is urgently assessing the economic value of a series of interventions in the filtering, purification, and aeration system of La Represa Park Lake after discovering damages caused by incivility of some citizens who feed the wildlife there, an action prohibited by municipal regulations. The aim is to strengthen the maintenance and ensure the proper functioning of this infrastructure, which is an emblematic space requiring continuous attention despite regular maintenance efforts. Technical municipal services are already working on a project that includes repairing the access stairs, cleaning and painting the equipment room, checking the electrical panel and water recirculation level sensors, and renewing the entire hydraulic system. These improvements will optimize the system and facilitate regular control and maintenance tasks. The city council reminds that the lake undergoes a permanent cleaning and purification program, including technical inspections, unclogging work, and shock treatments to maintain water quality. However, accumulation of food scraps and organic matter due to feeding ducks and turtles by some individuals causes filter and return system blockages, leading to odors, dirt, and excessive equipment strain. Additionally, active oxygen treatment has been applied to aid water filtration, harmless to wildlife, allowing residues to rise for filtration. Incidents stemming from uncivil behavior not only hinder maintenance but have occasionally caused lake overflow. Alongside technical measures under consideration, the City Council urges citizen responsibility to refrain from disposing of food and waste into the water, a simple act that aids in preserving this natural space integral to Marbella’s urban heritage. Through these efforts, the City Council reaffirms its commitment to enhancing and conserving La Represa Park, conducting routine maintenance and responding promptly to ensure this area remains optimal for residents and visitors.
