City Council closes Chorreadero Street to traffic for emergency works on a slope

The City Council has announced the closure of Chorreadero Street to traffic due to the start of emergency works being carried out to stabilize a slope located on this road. The road closure is based on strict safety criteria aimed at preventing possible rockfalls onto the road and ensuring the safety of citizens. The works began after rockfalls, erosions, and sinkholes appeared on various parts of the road following heavy spring rains earlier this year. Technical reports highlighted the existing risk and recommended immediate intervention to prevent a potential collapse of the slope onto the public road. The ongoing works are expected to last approximately one month. The initial phase focuses on cleaning and sanitizing the slope by removing potentially unstable blocks, reshaping the hillside, and improving drainage channels to prevent further rockfalls and enhance water evacuation. This first phase, lasting around eight days, includes transporting materials to an authorized landfill with the help of specialized machinery, a tipper truck, and personnel responsible for machinery control and traffic regulation. Subsequently, a surface area of approximately 2,500 square meters of the slope will be treated by installing reinforced twisted mesh with steel cable anchored using bolts at both the head and base of the slope to maintain long-term stability. The City Council emphasizes that access to Chorreadero Street is strictly prohibited during the works. Citizens are urged to respect the signage and avoid entering the area due to the risk of rockfalls and the operation of heavy machinery. Failure to comply with these instructions poses a serious safety hazard and may endanger both individuals and the successful completion of the intervention.
